The wait was SO worth it!
I like the creatures a lot!
No armor is a bit concerning, but Aegies 1/2 is pretty good as substitute.
Force Carcasal seems to be a later cast after you have some bigger guns. Or after the TG comes out. He hits relatively hard, just needs to be protected a bit.
The Golem seems pretty good for countering minor creature spam. Or even just -2 dice to major creatures. He seems the weakest of the three, but still pretty good.
Tomb Guardian seems like a slightly different version of Noble Vanguard and Temple High Guard combined.
I hope there are ways to extend the dissipate.
Edit: I didn't notice the qc lol.
That makes them even better!
Also, a rouse the beast might be handy to get extra use out of the creatures.

To me, she always felt like one of the premier control mages and now that might be the case!

Rouse the Beast sadly only works on Living creatures.

My bad. The hype is messing with my processing. :o
Essence drain could be an answer to some of the force creatures since attacking them doesn't seem to be the best move

I think that druids will need to be more careful of FM's dropping backline troops on her tree while the main FM force moves in.

Crazy!
The orb is really good for protecting buddies and fragile creatures. The issue is the opponent can see it coming a mile away.
The + meele buff seems really powerful especially if there are ways to extend the dissipate.

This card was revealed at the German Nationals this weekend!  Awesome job by the German Ambassadors for putting on a well attended and highly competitive tournament!

Force Shield speaks for itself.  A very handy trick in clutch situations where you need a little breather before a re-engage.  Watch out for the Disperse!

Also, check out the new video in the original post.  The article should follow shortly!  Links forthcoming!

Omg symbiotic orb. If not for only being able to use it once per round it would definitely be OP. Omg it is so good.

Also would like to note that this is not the first academy Mage with different training than their Arena counterpart. Priestess and Warlock pay triple for dark and holy spells respectively even if novice in academy. In Arena they never pay triple for novice spells.

One of the reasons it's used on academy is those matches are typically shorter.

It also keeps the cost low, which is important in Academy. AW is well aware of the average lifespan these cards are expected to have, and if Dissipate shortens that, they get a discount to their mana cost.

In my experience academy, this card is especially good when used by removing a dissipate token. I wouldn't use it all that much by paying 3 mana.  :)

In arena, I think both paying and removing a dissipate token might be equally viable. Depending on the situation. This card is no doubt one of the key cards in the set to keep the forcemaster running strong.

Are you kidding me? They're quickcast creatures. QUICK. CAST. CREATURES. Arena forcemaster will love them. They will not be merely niche.

Yea I agree with sailor here they will be useful in arena too especially the gaurdians.  As a Straywood beastmaster lover his quick cast is one of the coolest abilities.  Having level two Quickcast on the bigger creatures is even more amazing.  This will help expand forcemaster meta.   Yea they dissipate but if you look at them compared to a bitterwood fox or any lvl one creature they have some staying power.

Exactly! A quickcast guard is especially useful. And as far as Dissipate goes, how long would you expect these creatures to stay around? Five rounds seems about right for most level 2 creatures. Yeah, spending Dissipate tokens shortens this lifespan, but that's a tough choice you gotta make. If you are spending the last Dissipate token on an inactive creature (after it's finished acting for the round), then you really are spending the token for free. But any other time, it will have to be weighed against the cost of shortening the creature's life. I think this is an easy choice with level 1 creatures, who can easily be 1 shot and don't need such a long life, but I have a much harder time spending it off of the level 2 creatures.
Title: Re: Forcemaster Academy Spoilers!
Post by: silverclawgrizzly on May 31, 2017, 10:57:41 AM
I think the quick cast creatures are going to be a right pain to deal with when fighting against a Force Master but the dissipate question is going to be a huge strategy decision for FM players. That you can deploy these from a Minds Eye is fantastic.

Now as a Beast Master, my creatures tend to stick around for a good while but then that's sorta my thing. But don't forget as has been mentioned these creatures typically have Aegis so it's not like they're easy to kill anyway.

Great write up of the power grid Puddinhead!  Really cool to see the other ways redistributed power can buff any creature.  It costs a few actions for it to work but the real beauty is any creature.  This is actually pretty scary with another force creature that has not been unveiled yet.   :o

But iron golem or any elemental is just Nasty.

No, I am not kidding you.  I think they will be more niche in arena than they will in academy.  That doesn't mean I think they will be BAD in arena.  You seem to be replying as if I made a much stronger statement than I actually did.

Not for nothing guys, but let's face a fact or two. Forcemasters who play more than a creature or two are niche as it is. This is entirely new territory. Quick cast critters up until now have been entirely Druid business. Arena and academy not withstanding, these creatures are about to change the game. But only a fraction of a 12th of it.
Title: Re: Forcemaster Academy Spoilers!
Post by: Halewijn on June 01, 2017, 04:20:31 AM
I think it will replace many creatures in forcemaster books. Instead of having 1 or 2 level 3+ creatures, costing you 12-24 spellbookpoints, you can replace it with a couple of in school creatures and actually hit with galvitar during the same round. You will probably even have more spellbookpoints left for other non-creature spells. It really allows the forcemaster to cast a temporary creature without losing a ton of momentum.

I think these creatures will replace a couple of vampiresses/bears/trolls...

I would say some will get replaced, some won't. If you are planning a game with 1 or 2 consistent buddies they will still remain. If planning a game with that momentum and some surprises those new disappearing ones are the choice.
I think there definitely are some new possibilities for FM but the old ones will still exist.
Title: Re: Forcemaster Academy Spoilers!
Post by: Halewijn on June 02, 2017, 04:35:18 AM
Yeah, I agree, that's why I said "some". :)

For me personally, it will replace all of them. In the past (apart from the stalker) there was no other option than to go out of school if you wanted any creature at all. I just don't want to spend 12 spellbookpoints on a creature anymore if I can replace it with these guys.
Title: Re: Forcemaster Academy Spoilers!
Post by: Gogolski on June 02, 2017, 04:49:36 PM
Depending on what other cards use this mechanic of spending dissipate tokens to power an ability, these quick cast force creatures might be the necesary coin to power said abilities. I quite like the idea of casting your coin on the  board, knowing it will disappear, but untill it does, your coin can hit or guard. If you want to use your special powers, you 'burn' your creatures to power them.

We'll see what else is consuming dissipate tokens.

Both the upkeep-cards and the dissipate-cards are well in theme for the forcemaster.
She was the mage of powerfull abilities with an ongoing cost, these upkeep-cards are her post-paid abilities. Now she changed her payment plan to a pre-paid system with the dissipate-cards.

Personally, I think the big demon will not be good in arena as you can ignore him. Granted there are ways to counter that, but still.
BTW, these are all precorded no? You all have exactly the same shirts and jackets on every video.

Yea Grizz know ur retiring your Straywood for tournament play, wonder tho how you feel about jeweled scarab for a swarm.   Recoup cost of mana if creatures die so you can spend the mana to keep up the offensive.  Sounds like a win win!

Also really like galvanize too nice little addition to remove something and give back more die to attack with.  Another cool card.

Agreed.  In academy, with no zones, the mummy will be good.  In arena though, he's easily countered. 11 mana is pretty steep for a LEVEL 3 2 armor 10 life nonliving actionless creature.  For 1 more sbp you could have a wolf without restrictions.

I really want to try the Mummy out in Arena.

Being able to summon a creature and have it come in guarding sounds pretty good.
And you should be able to hit it with something small if you want to activate it and go offensive with it.

Counterstrikes are always optional. If you have one of your little creatures attack Tjusut, it will remove the guard even if they don't do any damage. Then you just choose not to counterstrike.

Alternatively, you could use your own Chant of Rage to force your opponent to attack the guarding Tjusut.

And there are lots of other ways to do it too. Not that hard to get him moving.

Dropping him out of your libro when you expect to take a round of attacks is not a bad play. I could see him as an effective protector of archers.

Good to know counterstrike is optional.  That said, you still lose an action to just get him started. Seems kind of punishing to the dark school.

Dropping him out of your libro when you expect to take a round of attacks is not a bad play. I could see him as an effective protector of archers.

This is probably the most viable play for this creature.

Agreed.
He is a HORRIBLE buddy imo. If he is the only buddy, good bye imo.

Not meant to be a buddy. He's meant to wreck face in academy and he does just that believe me.

Why not just play it as hit it with knockdown? He becomes incapacitated and now you're free. Yeah that's heavy on sp but if you stick it on a wand maybe?

Hey Guys!

Article and Video links have been added to the orignal post.  Come see "When The Force is ... Dsjer-Tet (http://www.arcanewonders.com/magewars/academy-forcemaster-expansion-preview-3-when-the-force-is-dsjer-tet)?"

Out of curiosity, if a future alternate Necromancer who pays triple for "Holy" spells and who is trained in "Dsjer-Tet" wants to put "Jeweled Scarab" in her book, how many sbp's does it cost?

training would supercede in this example and the cost would  not be triple

In school spells cost x1 spell points. Out of of school spells cost x2 unless it says otherwise on a mage's ability card. If his ability card jusf says "pays triple for holy spells" that is always the case unless they're novice. Think about kt this way. In school spells cost x1 spell points and enemy school spells cost x3. 1x3=3, not 1.

This is not something currently covered by the rules. I think I'm safe saying that we have discussed the issue behind the scenes, so AW is definitely aware of it, but that's all I can say. You'll have an answer by the time you need one though.

To recap, we have one person saying "you're trained in that spell type so it costs 1", another who says "it belongs to a triple-cost school so it costs 3", and the resident rules guru then gives a cryptic non-denial statement that basically says "an official ruling will be included in an upcoming expansion where this contradiction presents itself."

I'll take that as confirmation that the next Arena expansion is "Conquest of Dsjer-Tet" and features an Egyptian themed female necromancer with an army of mummies.  8)

No, no, you've got it all wrong.  It'll be called "Reclamation of Dsjer-Tet" and the Druid will be on the offensive to re-grow the Desert Kingdom.  Insects, Mummies and Spirits everywhere.  ::) ;)

As to the actual truth?  :-X :-X :-X

I think the mummy might have a home in my Necromancer book for domination.  Could make a good guard for an orb.

Very good write up Puddinhead!

I've made some phone calls and checked with some distributors. As of right now the scheduled street release date for Academy: Force Master is July 15th. That means the plan for now, barring unforseen delays, makes this set LEGAL for the 2017 Gen Con Arena, Academy, and Domination Championships!

Just please keep in mind everyone there are a number of things that can delay a street release. Neither I nor Arcane Wonders can control shipping hiccups for example.

I very much hope though that these cards will be legal as I think they'll make things more interesting.

In my opinion the Eye of Itadjet is what Psylok should have been.
Psylok may have flying and 3 more life, but with full action attack it's barely a threat. Also the Eye has better chance to inflict condition.

The problem with psylok is that it's too squishy to be on the front lines like it needs to be. Unavoidable critical ranged  damage is very good. Since it had a daze chance that seems to imply that they're meant to do damage slowly over time while making it harder for the enemy mage to fight back. Stick a force crush on the enemy mage and have two psyloks shooting at them. The problem is that psyloks die way too fast. I wonder if you could try force crush on the enemy mage, fumbles on the enemy mage to reveal whenever they try to attack your psyloks, and healing charms on the psyloks for whenever they do get hit, and then just use your mage to deal with the enemy creatures while the enemy slowly racks up damage. Might be a bit clunky though, since once healing charms are gone your psyloks are in trouble. Seems rather action intensive too. Then again some of her cards in forcrmastr academy might help, such as that orb. Not sure if there's anything to help them against unavoidable attacks though. A single flameblast could really mess with them. Also I think mind shields can stop psychic attacks not just psychic incantations or enchantments. Right?

Mistakes happen. I'm pretty sure that Arcane wonders fully acknowledges that Psylok was a mistake.

"Do not let “Psyoculus” fill you with repulsion." ~ Puddnhead  8)

Eye of Itadjet is much better. I'm still not sure an Arena forcemaster would spend a full action on him though.
If you want to try out Psylok, houserule his attack to a quick cast (and maybe a mana reduction). Might be fun.  :)

For it's lack of quick attack that makes psylok unplayable.
@Sailor
Yes, mind shield blocks psychic attacks. I don't mind them being squishy because every attack that is directed at psylok isn't targeted at the mage.

Printed cards which are currently below a certain power bar should not receive errata to raise their power level. Errata should be saved for game breaking situations, unforseen interactions, and missed text.

No matter what is created there will always be a hierarchy of power. The best cards will rise to the top and the weakest will sink to the bottom. This is the nature of all games similar to mage wars. Instead of looking backwards we should look forwards and welcome what is being added, as quality new options are coming and academy fm/warlord proves this.
