Title: Don't Give A Trunk Give Two
Post by: littlenog on January 15, 2018, 12:53:54 PM
I wanted to do a pet build with the giant elephants

Another Variant was an Elephant with a Pet Highland Unicorn.

BeastmasterA Beastmaster Spellbookbuilt by http://www.spellbookbuilder.com

Total cost: 120 pts

Turn 1
Mana Flower  Double Move

Turn 2
Pet Elephant

Turn 3
Advance Guard / Elephant Advance

Turn 4
2nd Elephant

From there double cheetah speeds or what ever enchants I want.  Tangle vines against elephants are not super effective since they hit so hard.  Then just march around crushing enemy creatures as I chase mages.

Emerald Elk Stave is to swap out for the Dispel Wand so it (Dispel Wand) cannot be dissolved.

Plan on doing a lot of your own fighting, which is cool. That being said lose the Staff of Beasts for either a Johktari hunting knife, tge boomerang or the spear. The first two are cheap and easy. The third can tie people down for your elephants.

It can still be dissolved. To prevent that you would be better with nullify. A clever player will plan timing to take your wand from you, for example as a final quick cast without initiative or a first quick cast with initiative. If it is that important then maybe a spare copy in the book would serve you better, rather than another piece of equipment you do not plan to use?

I do not particularly expect the Beastmaster to survive for long with only two creatures.  I would suggest replacing the elephants with rhinos and rams.  I would also suggest the faerie familiar since you have a lot of Enchantments, an Elemental Wand, and a Mage Wand.

Straywood can make it work with just 2. This is a lot of damage done quick.

If the opponent doesn't get rid of the Cheetah Speeds two Titanodons is just plain nasty, and that is without even thinking about adding Lion Savagery or Bear Strength on top.

I have been toying with a pet elephant book already. the cheetah speeds are crucial. I never was able to get out my second one. only played a few games with it. I am still working on tuning to make mine more efficient. there is still a long way to go doing that. will never be competition level, but a fun casual book.  I have more creatures in mine and it is very different than this one. siren is the worst matchup for it.

I think you need eagle wings, better than regrowth for the elephant since it makes it much harder to attack him.

Wouldn't Eagle Wings interfere with the Trample ability of the elephant?

no. like a melee attack, it loses flying for the trample

I will say this. Do not underestimate tanglevine. Much less force hold. A tanglevine will guarentee a single reaction probably 2 even from that many dice. Even as a pet it only rolls 6 dice against that vine and if you have to attack it twice it was already worth it.  They are mean for sure but they are slow and can't trample and attack without becoming fast.

I wonder if this concept wouldn't be done better (or at least more efficiently) with a warlord. A helmet with charge on it could do a similar thing, and they could also run cheetah speed considering the sp savings on the double titanodon.

I really think the same strat might shine in a new light if you did it wth a warlock or a necromancer. Hear me out, thats a crazy high mana cost right? But if you rise again or reanimate it its only half cost. So even if you do eventually get both out at once you could potentially get 4X the use out of em. Still not sold? Well how about this! Once they are zombies, Zombie frenzy applies! So what? Not with it you say? Well zombie frenzy is currently the only way i know of to REMOVE the slow trait and replace it with fast. So now your zombie elephants are faster, and meaner than they ever were before and they can sprint the full 2 zones and attack for more dice. Possibly trampling an uninjured creature on the way. I know its rediculous, but damn that would be priceless.

That is really not how this book is going to be played.  Rhino's and Ram's don't have the damage output and would require more than 2 hard casts to get online.  Also a lot of the buffs are centered around the two elephants with me supporting them.  Elemental wand and Mage wand don't quite do what I'm looking to do.

I actually plan to use the 2 die heal and the +2 melee from the staff.
I have thought about the spear though, but I am gonna try the staff and see if I even use it.

1 x Emerald Elk Stave is kinda like passive healing in a since it heals outside of actions.  I only have 2 animals so it is a pretty good fit, and I just don't see people spending a dissolve on it. (Passive Healing @Ben)

Force Hold is a lvl 1 spell > Dispel Wand

The Elephant if Pet and I am in zone Rolls 5 + 2 (Conjuration) + 2 Pet.  9 Dice  Not a sure thing, but...

You're forgetting the +2 the tusked one has against corporeal conjurations, so a 50:50 chance for a pet elephant on 8 dice to take a tanglevine in one go.

But I love this. It is the sort of thing only a mad scientist would think of.

I got 5 bucks says you don't use the Staff of Beasts once. It's nice but not for cost.

Yeah yeah passive healing. I have to increase mine in my Siren.

Is Trample treated like a normal melee attack?  Can it be dodge or improved by any buffs?

1) Trample is not a melee attack (I don't know WHY for the life of me they used the melee attack symbol :P).
2) A defense can be used against it (as long as that defense is able to be used against melee attacks..go figure)
3) A trample attack cannot be buffed in anyway.
4) Each trample attack can only be used once per round.
5) Trample attacks must respect guards.

If your Trample has elusive does it still respect guards?

I do not believe so as it's not technically a melee attack.
