Nobody's blaming anyone dude. These are facts. Arena will get 0 expansions for the foreseeable future. It's not that we're mad that Arena isn't doing well, we're mad that it's been abandoned completely in favor of academy. It's easier and cheaper for them to just make academy and claim to be supporting both games with one set. This IS happening, right now. I only say this again because it LOOKS like some of you are holding your breath and crossing your fingers, hoping against hope that I'm wing and something new is indeed coming. It's not.
We aren't getting archmage. Not getting alt fm or alt wiz. No new grimoires. No new mages, no new alt arena sets a la domination. Arena gets nothing. Nada. Zip. El Zilcho. The opposite of some. AW has made this decision already. Anything that comes hereafter will only come if they sell the IP to someone else, which ... Sure we can all hope for. But since they retain academy the signs point to this NEVER happening, as then they would have to differentiate the two properties and make them separate again. Won't happen.

It's not coming dudes. Its just not. I'll always play mage wars as even now it's my favorite game. But the company abandoned arena in favor of forcing us to buy academy. Then they ruined my best mage by totally busting the already functional and efficient mechanics that needed no buff.
Unless something changes, our future for mage wars as a property will consist of overpowered sets for academy, and underwhelming barely useable (strictly by number of cards "playable" in arena) sets for arena, all in the same small package.  They will continue to think they are "supporting" both products because arena starved players are buying the academy sets for the 6 cards they want for arena. And they know it. They just don't really care at all.
So i will forever roll out my selenia play mat, build a book across from my buddy, and enjoy the shit out of the next hour or so. But as far as me holding up the torch for a company that clearly abandoned us to a money grab? Im afraid that torch has gone out. Again i love this game, ill always be around in some way, playing and enjoying and possibly being active here again should topics ever start up. By i got no faith for its future anymore.  Sad to say.

They abandoned Arena at gen con guys. Arena gets nothing else. Hence the silence. Arena players are pissed off. And rightly so says I. That's why I'm not here anymore.

Its pretty simple guys. If they get attacked by ANYTHING but a zone attack (a la ring of fire, electrify, rain of stones, akiros hammer etc) and that attack deals any damage, they take one damage. If it IS  a zone attack, they take full damage at whatever the dice for the attack rolled. If that's enough to kill them then they die.

Spells / Re: Promo 2018 just before Academy Druid/Elementalist

Ahnk is only useless cuz it's over priced. Costs way too much to cast. Works great actually when coupled with sacred ground. But the price tag for both remains too high. If one could afford to drop both in one round, and make some sort of attack it could be pretty devastating. But alas 13 mana is a boulder and a rock. Ima go that route almost every time

I don't believe you'd be allowed to continue to cast any further equipment once DI is revealed. The mage moved, the spell is countered. I don't know if you can even wait for the equipment to show up, you must use it on the cast in order to counter gear up

General Discussion / Re: Noob wtb promo cards.

Hey bud! Promos are a strange thing with mage wars. You can most often get them in organized play, like at gencon. They're also used to be a place in the product store where you could buy the 2 promo sets that there were. The rest you got from pre ordering and such. That's how i got mine anyway.

Fact is folks, i take pride in my books and spend a considerable amount of time constructing and then perfecting each one to do exactly what i want it to do and when. Many of us feel the same pride in our creations. So let me use a parallel from my mtg days. If a friend of mine wanted to play some magic but didn't have his or her decks with them, or had none at all, i would of course allow them to play using one of mine. But those games are always more oinds sided then they needed to be imo, as i knew what possible in each situation leaving me more likely to win, amd that's less fun for both players. Win or lose i receive no satisfaction from either game because im nor surprised by anything and am essentially matching wits against myself. This removes much of my fun.
In mage wars (or really any other competitive game) i tend to keep my secrets to myself or close friends, as i for one can't stand losing to my own book.
To some netdecking is a way to get new ideas and improve upon them, to others a way to get into the mind of the creator and discover new interactions. But to many its just a way to not think hard enough to build a book, and i dont wanna add to the fuel for any of those fires. That may make me selfish, and i understand that, but its just how i feel.

I heartily enjoy the act of book building. And for what it's worth i often begin with the same template of my power cards before a mage is even choosen. It helps me not forget them while diving into combos and combat tricks later, and i am pretty much always satisfied when i have the teleport i need when i need it. 100 Sp would not change the number of cards in the template, though the number of copies each would rise and fall witg the sp gap for sure.

Galaxus is no good as it forces everyone to have one. I think it could have used a few more hours in the bench before that one came out. But when it's there it forces a response in some way, and the simplest response possible is... play your own galaxus. It shifts the focus of a domination game from conquer the board and strategically out maneuver your opponent, to rush a guardian, activate an orb, drop galaxus, kill other dudes galaxus. Boring/ lame imo.

Honestly Beldin not many of us know what playtesting entails. Tbh with you the only playtesters i see playing matches on octgn regularly are pretty few. Compared to the number of them that i know exist based purely on titles here on the forums. It's mostly griz and the AD crew, zot, WK and a few others.
So i naturally need to assume that most playtester info comes from cardboard games in local metas, perhaps at local game stores, and from whatever inside info they get from AW in the form of advanced releases for cards or new mages and the like. It's kind of a  ethereal concept to us rank and file down here on the ground.
He could also bee referring to the fact that since Aaron left the company it seems physically impossible to become a new playtester. So all the folks we know who do it are the same ones who have been for the last 4 years. Personally i trust ya all but i also know I've tried 3 or 4 times to become one with zero results in EITHER direction. So im sure he didn't mean anything by it. But at the same time i see where he's coming from.

That having been said i think the idea of getting AW to relinquish its best (imo) product to another company is rediculous. That's just me though

No. Under those circumstances the spell does not resolve and it would be destroyed with no effect.
