General Discussion / Re: It´s 2018 -- Any news?
« on: March 08, 2018, 09:22:17 AM »
Due to past struggles with delivering when we say we're going to deliver, I'm not starting any spoilers --nor am I announcing anything until the print files are actually at the printer and I have an estimated date of arrival of the final product.

We have plans to have 4 Mage Wars Academy mages released this year. Dates for these mages are still unknown as final development is still in process.

Current plans are to work with Arcane Duels for spoiler videos of different cards in addition to showing them off via social media. We also plan to send all card art files to Grga for inclusion with his spellbook builder as each set is released.

you're right isel, I'm afraid the first thing we'll hear about the new academy extension´s will be a picture on a merchant page on the internet, like last year.

Our policy at this time is that we don't announce a new product until the files have been sent to our manufacturer. That equates to approximately 3-4 months before the retail launch.

This is due to times in the past where we said "XYZ is coming in Spring" and then Spring comes and goes.

Well this thread has certainly been a doozy! I’m going to start off with a few quick facts, so everyone can see things from a bit different perspective:

1. More Mage Wars branded product has released from Nov 2016 to Nov 2017 than ANY previous year.
2. Arcane Wonders as a company is 3 official employees (soon to announce a 4th)
3. There are absolutely no plans to sell the Mage Wars license
4. Here is the convention schedule we’ve done the past few months:

Essen Spiele (Germany): October 26th - 29th
Unrivaled Tournament Finale (Las Vegas): October 27th - 29th
Southern Hobby Retail Expo (Tennessee): November 5th - 7th
BGG Con (Texas): November 15th - 19th
PAX Unplugged (Pennsylvania): November 17th - 19th
Dice Tower Cruise (Florida): December 2nd - 7th

To put things bluntly, I've personally been averaging about a week in-office between each show, so there hasn't been a lot of time to work on side-projects. The focus has been getting product made, making sure we're advertising games & expansions as they launch, and then moving onto the next game in the lineup.

The Dice Tower Cruise is the last show of 2017, and I will be in-office until the New York Toy Fair in February, and GAMA Trade Show in March. During the next few months I plan on getting things up-to-speed and moving forward with plans for 2018.

This year we suspended the ambassador program while we updated the website, and have taken this opportunity to set up the framework to improve the program to better support our active ambassadors moving forward. During this time period, however, we have continued supporting our ambassador events; recent examples are the recent MACE event, and the events being hosted in the UK.

The new program will support ambassadors of Arcane Wonders products that are going out into their community or hosting events at conventions. We will have more information after the convention season is over, and we are in the offices, updates coming by the end of January.

We’ve begun conversation with Grga and it is our current plan to use the fan-supported platform moving forward. The goal is to provide all the image assets for all future sets to Grga for implementation. We will not be updating the other spellbook builder that has been hosted, it has already been removed from our current website. There has been lapse in communication here, that I apologize for, and I'll be re-initiating contact and making sure that Grga gets everything that is needed.

Unfortunately, the App has always been a major issue for us (outside the earliest parts of its implementation). We have learned a lot about how we are not an app company, we are a board game publishing company. The Mage Wars app will be removed from iOs and Android app stores in January, if not sooner.

We have four (4) new Mage Wars Academy mage expansions planned for release in 2018. I'm not going to share what they are, or really anything else... but as soon as I have manufacturing confirmation, I'll be sharing a full-release schedule for 2018 (with dates for each upcoming product).

I don't have a ton more to share here, but I wanted to touch on a couple of items:

1. We approached the Arcane Duels team to do the previews and spoilers for Forcemaster and Warlord Academy expansions --we feel they did a tremendous job, and current plans are to have them do the previews and spoilers for the 2018 Academy releases (assuming they're up for it again).

2. We have a lot of passion for Mage Wars. It it the product line that got Arcane Wonders started as a board game publisher, and it will always have a special status for us. There are big plans and changes in the works for the future and we'll be having a lot more discussion about Mage Wars in 2018.

Now, I've got to pack for the Dice Tower Cruise because I fly out tomorrow! I'll keep an eye on here tomorrow, but after that, it's unlikely I'll be able to respond until I return on the 11th.

I believe he's referring to the Academy expansion as what makes the Forcemaster nastier  ;) -

Can you please send me an email: tonygullotti AT

I'd like to continue discussion about getting you the card images in advance and listing your spellbook builder as a resource on the new Arcane Wonders website that is being built right now.

Anouncements / Forums Restoration - Lost Posts
« on: May 01, 2017, 10:08:13 AM »
Hello everyone. I am posting this here as notification that we had to restore the Arcane Wonders website to a previous backup due to malicious attacks upon the site that occurred this past weekend.

Unfortunately, this means that many of the recent posts from the past few weeks on the forum may have been lost. We apologize for this inconvenience. While there is no indication that personal/contact information was lost, we ask that for precautionary reasons that you change your forum passwords.

Thank you.

There you go... ruining the fun of us playtesters screwing with the other people.....

I will say that the Warlod is getting some nice toys, and we will add an interesting spin on the forcemaster...

I prefer to look at it as "sharing with our rabid fanbase before I send an ad out to our general public" --but I guess stomping on the playtesters' fun could be seen as a perk.

I appreciate the patience as I pull things together. We're definitely taking steps in the right direction to make the program support our Ambassadors in hosting events.

Hey all, just wanted to chime in. I'm currently looking into reshaping the Ambassador program to better suit Arcane Wonders' growing and changing needs. I've been working on redoing the Arcane Wonders website and we will be streamlining information about the program.

Here is a post on the Arcane Wonders Ambassadors Facebook page where I've been in dialogue to gauge some feedback:

We have several ambassador applications that have come in that are in my queue to answer. There isn't a void, things have just been extremely busy on our end as we prepare for the convention season to begin and set things in motion for our new releases.

Here's a little preview of an ad we're working on:

We will begin sending out more information in months to come along with previewing cards from the set. I'm working on a few of the details still, but releases will be around the major conventions we're attending this year.

Necr0mancer --thank you for reaching out. I brought your questions to Bryan Pope, who worked intensively on the development of Sheriff of Nottingham with the designers. Here are his answers to your questions:

1) During negotiation a player offers the Sheriff, "If you don't inspect my bag, you can have the Crossbow inside of it". The Sheriff agrees to the offer and returns the bag. The players bag doesn't contain a crossbow.

Does the player have to show the Sheriff the contents of the bag to prove that there wasn't a crossbow in it?

That’s a good question. I think YES he should have to reveal his contrband, but should only show the contraband to the sheriff (not to the other players). If he does not have the crossbow he owes the sheriff nothing.

2) During negotiation the player offers the Sheriff, "If you don't inspect my bag, I'll give you one of the Bread inside it." The Sheriff agrees to the offer and returns the bag. The player's bag doesn't contain any of the legal, green, cards named "Bread" but it does contain a red contraband card, "Rye Bread".

Does the player have to give the Sheriff the Rye Bread card?

Wow! Another great question!  My thought is YES, he must give the Rye Bread to him because it is a bread card (and counts as bread at the end of the game). However, if the merchant had specified a legal Bread, then he would not have to because Rye bread is not legal. The determining factor is that the promise was not very specifically defined, and technically Rye Bread is bread!

The Magnetic Boards and Playmats can be found on our webstore under Accessories here:

Most of the playmats are on the second page.  :)

Yeah, lots of discussion concerning the Spellbook builder today  :P

In all seriousness, we do understand the frustration. Arcane Wonders has experienced a lot of changes in the past couple months, and the SBB is definitely on the list of projects we are actively working on. We're not trying to be vague with the details, we're just trying to work through how to efficiently get the updates done to the current tools and also allow the fans to build their own SBBs if desired --we're watching those with interest.

Additionally, I'll be rolling out an updated website soon, so resources for all the individual product pages are being pulled together so there isn't any missing information, Rulebooks etc.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Online spell book builder?
« on: January 19, 2017, 08:03:28 AM »
We are implementing plans for spellbook builder updates. I wanted to take a minute on here to address a couple of items as there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding concerning the spellbook builder.

  • None of the coding is done in-house for our apps or spellbook builders
  • There are currently 3 different spellbook builders being worked on (two fan-made that we're seeing how they progress, and one that is starting next week)
  • Our major priority as a company is to produce and release new content --our focus is on continuing to release new sets and market said sets to the public to increase the Mage Wars player-base

It takes much more time than a couple hours to update the apps in their current states. We are working on solutions, but they take time.

As I mentioned in the previous BGG thread linked above, I expect there to be progress in 2017. We have a lot of work being done in the background with new products and are looking into ways to provide this tool for our fans.
