Returning to Mage Wars after one year hiatus  :)

Will Voltaic Discharge attack the caster? I am assuming yes because the card does not state otherwise like in Electrify.

Mage Wars Academy : Voltaic Discharge
Cost: 6; Range: 0-0; Targe:.. Zone; Zone Attack... Effect text is blank


Mage Wars Arena : Electrify
Cost: 9; Range: 0-0; Targe:.. Zone; Zone Attack... Effect text says: Attack all objects in the zone except the caster.

Congratulations for the great game, I am having lots of fun with it.

I have a few comments regarding the game insert. I must confess that I am picky when it comes to inserts; however, I know that I am not the only one.

Overall the insert is good, let me list some good points:
#1. Cards pocket is great, specially because there is enough space to store sleeved cards.
#2. There is a pocket for each type of coin.
#3. Good quality material

Now, let me list some points that can be improved:
#1. The coins might move out the pockets during transportation. I carry my copy of SN in my backpack and often, when I open the box, the coins are all over the place.
#2. There isn't any place to put the Merchant Stands. The best I can do is to place the manual right on top of the insert and the Merchant Stands on top of it in.

As a reference, I would mention the board game named "Jamaica" which has an outstanding insert; however, I understand that outstanding inserts might impact production cost.

Hey everybody,

Is there any video tutorial demonstrating how to install OCTGN and configure Mage Wars?

If not; then, I volunteer myself to make one. What do you guys think?

I would like invite you to step into the arena and play Mage Wars with us!

My friends and I will be playing Mage Wars on Wednesdays August 13th, 20th at Meeplemart and August 27th, and September 3rd at 401 games from 6pm to 9pm in Toronto-ON-Canada.

Beginners and experienced players are welcome. If you do not have the game; then, you can take one of our apprentice spellbooks and we will teach you how to play the game. If you already have the game; then, bring your mages to the arena.

Hey guys,

Wildfire Imp
Wildfire Imp says: "... Wildfire Imp gains Melee +2 while attacking an object with a Burn condition on it". How about an object with multiple burn conditions?

I am confident that 2 burn conditions won't give Melee +4; otherwise, it would be too strong.

Sorry if this question already came up, I searched for this but did not find any answer.

1. MageA casts a Dissolve targeting Mage Wand (equipment cost 5)
2. MageA pays 5 mana
3. MabeB reveals Armor Ward and asks MageA to pay 4 extra mana, otherwise Dissolve will be nullified.
4. MageA does not have enough mana, Dissolve is discarded, and cost (5) is wasted.

Is this a correct scenario? It looks like revealing the enchantment in this way would "interrupt" the Dissolve. Same way as revealing a Force Hold when a creature attempts to move would "interrupt" that move and therefore it is illegal.

The rule book states:

You may not have more than one equipment spell with the same name attached to your Mage at any time.

When an equipment spell resolves with a location that is already taken (such as casting a second weapon), the original equipment is returned to the owner’s spellbook (it is notdiscarded).

Assume my Mage has Bearskin attached. Can I cast a second Bearskin? So, the first Bearskin goes to my spellbook; next, I can get rid of corrodes; finally, the second Bearskin still attached to my Mage.

Ring of Asyra: Once per round, this Mage may pay 1 less mana when she casts or reveals a Holy enchantment or incantation...

Does it mean that any holy (school) enchantment or incantation is a candidate for discount?

I'm asking it because other rings are restricted to the spell subtype instead school. Example:

Arcane of Curses:  Once per round, this Mage may pay 1 less mana when he casts or reveals a curse spell...

If the answer for my question is "Yes. Any holy (school) enchantment or incantation is a candidate for discount"; then, it sounds to me that Ring of Asyra is somehow a better ring compared to the others.

Creative / Am I the only one who does not like playing with the Spellbook?

I find the spellbook (the binder) very nice and gives a cool theme to the game. However, I think that it takes much longer to put all cards back in the spellbook than simply making a regular deck and store it in a box.

Additionally, I also find quicker to find my cards from the deck than from the spellbook. Spellbooks also take more storage space (not a big concern though).

Therefore, I am playing with my friends without any spellbook. One of my friends is also following the trend.

What do you guys think about it? The spellbook does not add much for me.

By the way, does anybody know if I can make just a regular deck in tournaments?
