General Discussion / Re: Mage Wars on OCTGN
« on: Today at 06:06:01 AM »
Just a suggestion.
Would it be possible to pin an easily identifiable post in the forum where the latest on how to install MW on OCTGN is all put together? Every time I change computer I seem to have a hard time to find the right links in the forums as I come here every now and then... If this is already out there, please send me a sign! :) thanks for consideration!
May I take the opportunity to salute those who make MW on OCTGN possible!!

Mages / Re: favorite mage
« on: February 01, 2018, 04:58:32 AM »
My favorite mage is the Druid. So much fun with so many moving pieces!
My favorite future mage is going to be the Shaman, with his Blizzard attack frosting the whole arena like an ice tsunami while he dances to summon elementals to finish the job!   ;D

Strategy and Tactics / New to the holy school of magic
« on: January 31, 2018, 12:49:07 AM »
So I need to catch up with the holy school of magic after the release of the Academy Priestess and the Paladin.
I can see that they have big influence in the game these days, but I have not been able to practice with them yet. The AWOpen2 is coming up and need to catch up quickly.
What would you guys recommend me to look into first? any emblematic posts/spell-books/discussions in the forum?
Take care,
Arx

General Discussion / Re: What you think are the schools from this Mage?
« on: January 25, 2018, 09:50:27 PM »
I like the concept of a monk that can invoke special strikes in combination with a melee attack. Seems possible by looking at its right hand.
For example including incantations (war school with specific sub type) or mage abilities with powerful (and good chances) of creating effects (i.e. power punch for crippled, spok's vulcan nerve pinch for stunned, etc. I doubt that the five point palm exploding palm technique -kill bill- would feature there though...).
The dragon training would be also really neat if they issue more minor/medium lizard or dragon creatures.  :D

I think is simply a war trained mage with monk sub-type.

General Discussion / Re: The future of Mage Wars

This is a great thread! with nice story twists and creative ideas.
I would like to share how I am taking this game in the last few years. Just to contribute with my point of view.

I started in 2012 and have regularly gone away and come back to the game. It is for me a nice way of enjoying the game while not burning it. To be honest, when I get too much into it I start to see "the matrix" and do not quiet like it because takes away the great thematic flavor.
When I became orphan of my initial MW community in Venezuela, I preached the word of MW in the new places where I lived since then (through Ambassador-like demos in gaming clubs in Spain and Kazakhstan) and there were always three to four persons who would buy the game and start playing it with me. It is only about engaging them and enjoying WITH them (coaching them and letting them win more often than not).  :D But I do not think that these small communities could get any bigger considering the competition of new game releases. I sincerely do not see much of a difference in this prospect if I would for example try to seduce them to engage in other LCGs that are not "the latest".
If I need some competitive MW, I immediately go to OCTGN to take off the rust and increase the learning curve yet again, playing against amazing strategists/tacticians that can be found there. This happens once a year, usually coinciding with Arcane Duels Open or other tourneys like it.

When I look at other (non-collectible) Card Games (i.e. LCGs) I observe that their life is very short (2-3 years). They tend to be seasonal too or just be swallowed by new releases. I saw how NetRunner community got crippled when Game of Thrones came in and later how GoT communities have almost disappeared when Legend of the five Rings took the spotlight. This happening with heavy support from the publishers and sometimes even killed by the very publishers (i.e. by issuing a second edition or publishing more LCGs than the gaming communities can absorb).

I take this game as a "niche" game. When I say "niche" I mean that it is kept alive more by the community rather than the publisher. With few persons that play it at any given time in a given place. When this game was in its prime after its release, a big community could count maximum 16-28 active players (please let me know if you knew bigger communities!).

In 2018 the situation is not looking any better in number of players, but what I enjoy is to have this online community and regular (yearly of biannually) meet ups in OCTGN.
These days I am also enjoying the Academy releases. Easier to find the time, simpler, but still MW in essence. I play it with my son and his friends; and recently in OCTGN, where there are some nice people always available when I need a more challenging foe.

My conclusion: as long as there is a meeting point for real life or virtual playing communities, this game will be enjoyable and alive. Thanks for AW for maintaining this forum and to all of you who are my virtual MW community!  :D
Excuse me if I disappear for (needed) periods of time. But my returns would not be possible if it wasn't for some of you, Alpha players, who upkeep the community during the "winters". You know who you are...

Mage Warriors, I salute you!

AW Is amazing at fixing mistakes like that. Plus now you get to deal with the lovely and friendly Alfiya Pope. Of big ol dragon fame! She's awesome!
Was the Dragon named after her?
 :o :D

Many thanks for your encouragement, guys!
I wanted to additionally request your support so that, when you see fit, those of you with youtube channels (small or big) subscribe to Cronica del dado rojo. The point would be to share with your own subscribers that you find this channel interesting (only if you do, of course!  :D).
So far I have banked content to fill approximately two months of videos (with weekly releases), so hope to remain consistent for a while irrespective of real life interferences.
In sum, anything you can do to spread the word will be appreciated.

Take care,
Arx

Dear community,

I just wanted  to present to you my new youtube channel. It is about Mage Wars. It is in Spanish.

"Crónica del dado rojo"

After the recent release in Spanish of the Mage Wars arena edition, and after years of lurking in the forums, I thought it would be a good time to pay back to the world community by generating content and by promoting the game in a language that still has not seen much of it.

The main objective is to promote love for the game. For the time being I am focusing on beginner level videos and miscelaneous contents.

Please come in, have a look, subscribe, and do say hi or leave suggestions (even if in another language).

I hope you like it!

Arx

PS- by the way, thank you goes to reddicediaries as his nickname inspired the name of the channel. ;)

Unfortunately, nothing happened in the UK.  :-[
I was there, ready to enter the arena, but nobody wanted to enter it with me! I was surprised... disappointed... I was hoping for a nice tourney (3rd biggest gaming con in the world, according to the organizers) but it simply was not possible.
I did not even manage to put together some casual games...
I don´t know what to say. Maybe the organizers/ambassadors have more info to share.
Next year I´d rather hit it in Germany...  ;)

Hello to whoever knows more than I do about this tourney!

Dates are approaching fast and, based on the lack of action around this event (both in the forum and in the UKgame expo website), all indicates that this tourney is not going to materialize.  :-\ I also see that the ambassador that posted this, has not been in the forum since his post above... ::)

Does anyone in the forum know how to contact this ambassador (Chris Brett)? I just would like to get his views on this...
Thanks for any signs!

Question: Will there be any casual play opportunities during the UKGE17?
tks,
