Returning to Mage Wars after one year hiatus  :)

Will Voltaic Discharge attack the caster? I am assuming yes because the card does not state otherwise like in Electrify.

Mage Wars Academy : Voltaic Discharge
Cost: 6; Range: 0-0; Targe:.. Zone; Zone Attack... Effect text is blank


Mage Wars Arena : Electrify
Cost: 9; Range: 0-0; Targe:.. Zone; Zone Attack... Effect text says: Attack all objects in the zone except the caster.

I have a great suggestion for this topic, it would be great if we had a Wiki for Mage Wars. It would be a perfect format for what we are covering here.

We could have all spells and clarification for each spell, mechanic, mage card, you name it; furthermore, users would be able to easily update the content of the Wiki. Additionally, many Wikis come with useful features such as version control, watch list, and permission control.

Subsequently, the OCTGN Spell Ruling module could retrieve data from the Wiki as you already mentioned.

I really enjoy this idea and in my personal experience the format "1 core set and 1 big expansion" worked very well.

Normally, when I meet a new player I make a point to make a speelbook only with the cards the new player has; so, it turns to be more competitive and I do not throw a bunch of new cards/information on the table, focusing on the "fun experience" and avoiding throwing too much information at new players.

I also do similar things to other games and it works very well.

I am with Lord0fWinter, Academy will help a lot. In my area there are many people who feel intimidated and would opt for less lengthy games.

What we need is a shorter, simpler version of the game that won't intimidate people. And we're getting that in Academy so I think we'll be okay.

Hey Zuberi,

I have a small suggestions when it comes to the total shared life. Instead of using percentages, you might want to try the following formula: (Sum of Mages Life) - (Fixed Life modifier)

Let's suppose we come up with a Fixed Life Modifier equals 15 for a 2v2 game; so, we would have the following example:

Beast Master Life = 36
Necromancer Life = 32
Shared Life = 36 + 32 - 15 = 53

I am not sure if you tried it already, but it might work and is quite simple.

At least in my playing group it is easy to say that we did not have a chance to fully explore every expansion yet. There is a lot of strategies to for us to experiment still. It should keep us entertained for many months.

Also, I heard many non-MW players saying that they will wait for Academy to come out; so, they can give it a try.

i was asking about it in some other thread. hope it will show up somewhere soon. Skeletal Sentry also has new soldier subtype.

I just checked the Skeletal Sentry in the Card Database and it does not have the soldier subtype... It only shows: Undead, Skeleton.

It would be nice to have a PDF with all errata cards. Not just for printing, but also to verify what cards have been changed.

Congratulations for the great game, I am having lots of fun with it.

I have a few comments regarding the game insert. I must confess that I am picky when it comes to inserts; however, I know that I am not the only one.

Overall the insert is good, let me list some good points:
#1. Cards pocket is great, specially because there is enough space to store sleeved cards.
#2. There is a pocket for each type of coin.
#3. Good quality material

Now, let me list some points that can be improved:
#1. The coins might move out the pockets during transportation. I carry my copy of SN in my backpack and often, when I open the box, the coins are all over the place.
#2. There isn't any place to put the Merchant Stands. The best I can do is to place the manual right on top of the insert and the Merchant Stands on top of it in.

As a reference, I would mention the board game named "Jamaica" which has an outstanding insert; however, I understand that outstanding inserts might impact production cost.

Take a look the "The Philosophy of Fire" posted by Alexander West: http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=13687. You might find it interesting if you are looking for general advice.

Also, Wizard's Tower is a great arcane spell that could be added to your spellbook. Specially, if you want to play with some Fireball or Flameblast.
