iSuck Wizard 1.0
« on: December 05, 2017, 04:16:26 AM »
So here is an older model I have pulled out from my shelf recently. Scraped home with it against a beasty in a long game.

It is a basic version of a classic mana denial, outlast-the-enemy wizard. Heavy on the mana worms and essence drains. Keep the enemy powerless then go for the kill with lightning is the general plan.

It is clearly not updated in 12 months or more. Only sign of it being post-Grimoire is Mordok's Tome, but this I think was an impulse tinker rather than a deliberate reassessment.

Any advice on changes I should make based on the last few expansions/changes in play?

I'm not sure the Gate to Voltari is worth it for the number of creatures you have. You may be better off just casting those directly by the mage and using the 4 spellpoints for other spells.

Summoning circle might be useful to accelerate the attack of the mana draining creatures.

Personally I think 8 is enough, I've sometimes gone as low as 6, although 8 is a typical number for me.

I think you definitely want a Battleforge (even more than the Gate, but I'd run both).  I'd be surprised that you need 2 Arcane Rings?  You realise that you can't wear both? Also I'd pick one Amulet and stick with it. Swap Chausses for Faulds?

Personally I'd want a Gorgon Archer, a Heal, a Purge Magic and a couple of Nullifies in there. I'd drop a Minor Heal, and some of the Air Attack spells. I'd drop Knockdown and put in a Surging Wave instead. I'd swap Shift Enchantment for Enchantment Transfusion, swap one Dispel for a Disperse, add a Crumble and seriously contemplate how much I need Force Crush...

@wtcannonjr: The Gate is for action generation. Getting two worms/leeches out per turn is worth it, I think. These things work best as an early swarm to keep the opponent's early/mid game mana down.

I do take the point about the summoning circle, though.

@Kelanen: I didn't notice the two arcane rings in the book when I put it through the builder! That's a simple oversight on my part and no doubt reflects an earlier tinker.

The rationale for both amulets was for the meditation to kick in once the creatures were out (and thus opening up a full action possibility). Might swap the moonglow for a wispwillow, though.

I'll play around with the other suggestions and see how it looks.
