Title: Academy spoiler Disciple of Radiance

I saw the disciple on facebook and what an awesome card!  :D She's clearly the counterpart of the [mwcard=MW1C02]Asyran Cleric[/mwcard] but instead of the defensive healing ability you gain the offensive damage ability. Hands down I prefer this version, it suits my playstyle much more and it will help you to gain tempo in the game. I expect to see coshade swarm with her ::)

In the starting rounds you can summon them to gain mana and by the time the opponent has arrived you could heal something and immediatly deal 2-3 damage if you have multiple copies of them. They could power up with the cheap damaged veteran. She might also be a very nice zombie-counter. (and we need those! ;) )

Imagine 6 of this in a zombie zone. If you cast 2 healing spell, you can deal 12 direct damage. Or imagine you reveal 3-4 healing enchantment, 18-24 direct damage. Wow, you could kill a mage with that...

If I saw 6 of these in a zone. I would stay far away from that zone.

The thing is, teleport and push exist. Radiance Pit will replace golem pit :)
It is possible to have 6 of these out and 3 enchantment ready to be revealed by turn 5.

This really create a zone of death. Purify for 0 mana and you deal 6 direct damage.

You do see it coming from a mile away, though.

Kill the clerics.

If you were running a cleric pit, what would your back-up plan be?

I'm looking forward to these in Domination. Cheap creatures that can tag or guard orbs and are surprisingly durable for their cost (6 life, 1 armour), plus can get a guaranteed damage on a target in a pinch. The priest/priestess really needed a level 1 creature like this. Kudos to the design team!

Just like you could see a golem pit miles away, but the difference here is that it doesnt require 4 creatures to attack. You take the damage right away the instant you get teleported into the pit.

I picture something like this as a priestess:

Turn 1: 20 Temple of asyra + harmonize 6
Turn 2: 16+2 battle forge + 2x Disciple 0
Turn 3: 10+2+1 Ehren enduring palading + regrowth + random enchantment on mage + leather 2+2
Turn 4: 12+4+1

By turn 4 you could summon another disciple and maybe heal Ehren completely with a minor heal. If the opponent is in your face by then you could deal 3 direct damage. -

oddly enough, barskin is a healing spell, but regrowth is not.

whats wrong with standing in starting zone for 6 rounds casting disciples and Iguana regrowths on them.

If enemy stays in corner own corner:
load enchantment tranfusion and divine intervention on mage.
Time initiative and QC teleport yourself in range with a dispell ready. If he reveals Anchor kill it, if not. then reveal all your enchantments in correct order before he can respond and deal him 36 damage.

If enemy aggros you just attack him with 2 dice'ers while you heal yourself (if mage is focused) or heal / ressurrrect disciples.

Against Sleep thoughtspores - the disciple can wake up herself :)

hahaha, cool! if you try that on a new player he will not look a mage wars a second time though.

seriously, maybe the effect shouldn't work for enchantments to prevent things like this? or only holy healing spells? The combo is hard to pull of though  :P

Was it ever confirmed that the 'hand symbol' on cards like Asyran Cleric, Joseph Trueblood and Healing wand is of the healing subtype?

The symbel varies from the 'light symbol' found on Samandriel Angel for instance.

If its healing subtype - then healing with the healing wand will also trigger the Disciple. (besides just casting the wand)

The main thing here is:

Quote
Whenever your Mage casts or reveals a healing spell

So creatures that cast healing spells do not work, this has to be cast by your Mage. Much like the question about Malakai's Fire question and answer, if it is a Healing Wand or any type of equipment that casts a spell with the healing subtype then "it counts" as trigger for the Disciple. Note how she is worded in such a manner that you can not trigger her 4 times in a 2v2 Team match.

hmm but you could stack up a few healing charms around the arena and activate the radiance pit from anywhere with a burst reveal?

[mwcard=MWSTX1CKE03]Healing Charm[/mwcard]

Aside from the obvious healing benefits, Stacking up actions to generate 1 damage for every 5 mana spent is not a great investment?

You wouldn't do it if you only had one Disciple out, but if you had 3-6 out, a healing plus 3-6 damage works for 5 mana. And it's only 3 mana really since you have to assume the charm's already been cast so the original 2 mana would have been a round or 2 ago. Plus the added benefits of 1 extra life for revealing charm, the possibility of it costing less with Enchanter's Ring, Ring of Asyra, etc.

plus the 5 mana for each girl.

I didn't say it wouldn't work. It's just not the most mana efficient way to get ~20 damage done.

The girls can fight as well. I think you could do some crazy burst damage if planned well. You could kill the opponent in 1 or 2 turns.

It does have extra cool points though.  I was just trying to look at ways you could trigger the radiance pit more than twice (with your own cast options).  Healing charm is one of the few ways to stack up some healing spells to allow a mass hit with the radiance pit.

It might be a little intensive to setup, but does seem to have some nice bluff aspects - as long as you've some face down cards and a mage action left you've got one or more direct damage possibility from each disciple that has to be considered.  On its own one direct damage isn't that big a deal, but a few and potentially a stack isn't anything to sneeze at.  The potential for 2 mage actions and two face down healing charms is up to 24 direct damage (with six disciples in a zone).  If I don't get the play I've still got the healing charms to support my creatures.

I would say:

4 disciples (pretty realistic) and 3 iguana regrowths (also nothing that extreme)
as action: a teleport + a purify (cost 0)

4x4 = 16 damage for 3 mana + the teleport cost that round. This is not THAT hard to set up and can be buffed easily a lot more. and you kill half a mage ignoring armor and without giving your opponent any chance to react! You could combine this with a [mwcard=MW1J24]Temple of Light[/mwcard] to do even more burst damage.

It seems to me you could do some crazy combo's with them. I can sense the ragequits already  ::)

20 unavoidable damage. It deny armor and defense.

Kinda Off-topic, but this was the last thread with a preview/spoiler card.

Is there a list/can one be put together of all the new promos/previews/spoilers that are out there and not currently in an existing set?
