Problem Statement:
Mage Wars is an outstanding game that has trouble finding its audience and is floundering. 

Many, many games aimed at similar target market are being funded at the $500K-$2M level on Kickstarter.
Games funded at this level nearly always have a full range of highly detailed miniatures.
Most are multiplayer.

Hire sculptors
Expand multiplayer
Put up a slick Kickstarter
Save the game

Rules Discussion / Jinx resolves before Nullify?

Situation: Caster has two face down enchantments: [mwcard=MW1E23] Jinx[/mwcard] and [mwcard=MW1E29] Nullify[/mwcard], both controlled by opponent.  Caster attempts a quick spell which targets himself.

Am I correct that the spell would be countered by Jinx before targeting, thus not triggering Nullify.

Anybody have Origins results?

Come on down to Kublacon game convention near the SF airport on Friday May 23 for Mage Wars.  I will be running a casual learn to play and deckbuilding session in the afternoon, followed by a tournament starting at 7:00 in the evening.

The local playgroup is mostly new, so don't be shy if you have not played a lot of games.

A few notes:
Parking, registration, etc. can take some time so plan to be at the Hyatt by 6:30 if possible.  Being near SF, there is very little street parking.  I have parked in the lot by the office highrise across the street from the hotel for years without incident.

Kublacon is the premier gaming convention in the SF bay area and features other interesting events, a dealer's area and large open gaming space.

Game Kastle in Santa Clara, CA has an active an growing group.   Usual times are Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, but players are around at other times as well.  Check the website for events, or just drop by.

Mages / Anvil Dwarf Matchup Advantage vs Fire and Lightning

Anyone else notice how the new Anvil Dwarf has a substantial matchup advantage against Flame or Lightning based opponents?

The key is Elemental Cloak.  With the Anvil Dwarf's ability, the net effect against Fire and Lightning is -2 attack dice and -4 to the effect roll.  For only one additional mana, the Anvil Dwarf can cast Elemental Cloak with Reforging Rune.   The first Dissolve costs the opposing mage two additional mana (net one mana disadvantage), and the Anvil Dwarf can simply re-cast the Elemental Cloak a second time with the Fortification Rune to add +1 armor and 2 mana destruction tax.   

Throw in Armor Ward or a well timed Nullify and the Anvil Dwarf has a good chance to severely blunt Fire and Lightning attacks for the entire match.

Hard to see how Fire Warlocks and Elemental Damage Wizards are going to compete.   Yes, 4 wands and 4 Dissolves give them a shot, but the Anvil Dwarf can prioritize taking out the wands, and can add more sophisticated tricks like Enchantment Transfusion + Nullify to protect the cloak.

Hopefully the playtesters will be able to enlighten us after the release...

Spellbook Design and Construction / Forcemaster + Gorgon Archer

Just getting started with the game and with Forcemaster, but have done a lot of reading on the forums.

The prevalent Forcemaster strategies appear to include 1-2 elite creatures, typically some combination of Grizzly, Vampiress or Brogan. 

Has anyone considered running Gorgon Archer instead?  In general, the Gorgon will encourage the enemy to close which is just what the FM wants.  FM also has plenty of low cost force pushes available to get the slow Gorgon in position to make its full round weakening attack.

Also looking for suggestions on dealing with difficult matchups - for example, Iron Golem.  At this point, the book has only a few counters for the Golem:  Teleport, Force Hold, Block.

Looking for cards to round out the Spellbook.
